Art Basel Puts Miami Beach on the Art-World Map this December

Art Basel, Miami, Art, events, things to do, travel

Art Basel, one of the most successful international art fairs in the world, is poised to take over sun-soaked Miami Beach from Monday, November 29 to Saturday, December 4.

While this massively anticipated event will dominate the focus of art lovers in the Miami area and further afield, many people likely don’t know how to attend.

Luckily, VIVA has you covered.

Art Basel Miami Beach, which has sister fairs in Switzerland and Hong Kong dating back to the 1970s, will emanate from the Miami Beach Convention Center at 1901 Convention Center Drive. While the fair will technically run from November 29 to December 4, its first three days will operate on an invite-only basis—meaning the general public will have a tough time getting in.

Starting on December 2, however, the fair opens to the public. That’s when the excitement will truly begin.

Inside the venue, visitors will find a number of different sectors showcasing everything from the work of young, emerging talents to 20th century masters. In addition to the panoply of works on display, visitors can also check out Art Basel’s Conversations series which, according to the fair’s official website, “presents stimulating panel discussions on topics concerning the global contemporary art scene,” featuring commentary from “prominent members of the international art world — artists, gallerists, curators, collectors, architects, critics, and many other cultural figures — each offer unique perspectives on producing, collecting, and exhibiting art.”

Tickets for Art Basel Miami Beach can’t be purchased yet, but should be available soon through the fair’s website.

Before attending, be sure to familiarize yourself with the fair’s rules, which cover everything from prohibited items to camera use.
