Planning a Vegas Getaway? Avoid These 5 Common Mistakes
Written by Selena Singh-Russell
Las Vegas is the place to go if you’re looking to have an unforgettable time with your pals or significant other. There’s endless entertainment and something for everyone. But, there are certain things everyone should know before packing for Vegas. Avoiding these common missteps is easy and will help ensure your trip goes off without a hitch.
1. Betting on games you’ve never played
The casino is definitely one place you’ll visit when in Vegas. After all, there are so many! It’s tempting to want to get by on beginner’s luck, but the best games to play are the ones you understand. You’ll have a higher chance of winning if you're at least somewhat familiar with the ins and outs of a particular game.
2. Not tipping
Tipping is a general courtesy, but tipping in Vegas can go a long way. If there’s a show you want to see that’s sold out, chances are that a hospitality worker knows where you can get tickets. So, be sure to tip your valets and bartenders. You never know how they can help you out!
3. Not scoping out deals
Going to Vegas isn’t cheap. The flight, hotels and entertainment are all costs that will eat away at your bank account. That’s why it’s important to invest some time in finding the best discounts. In particular, keep an eye out for bundled deals. Some hotels will offer a spa credit or free breakfast included with your stay.
4. Leaving too much to chance
Being spontaneous is all a part of the fun of being in Vegas. But, there are certain things you need to plan. If you want to see a show, you’ll need to buy tickets ahead of time. Otherwise, you may end up with bad seats or no seat at all. If you want to eat at a nice restaurant, you’ll need reservations—especially if you’re going on a Friday, weekend or holiday.
5. Not signing up for a players club card
If you plan on spending a lot of time in the casinos, we’d recommend getting a players club card. The cards are free to obtain, but they offer a lot. You can get discounts at the buffet, cash vouchers for the casino and free hotel stays. There’s nothing to lose by getting one!
