The Best Places for Wine in Scottsdale
Written by Hafeez Hussain
Arizona is often overlooked as a wine destination, and most people don't think of it as an area that is home to vineyards. It is! While the state may seem like the epitome of a desert landscape, there are three regions here that produce excellent wines: Verde Valley, Wilcox, and Sonoita.
This means you can find some fantastic wine tasting rooms right in Old Town Scottsdale. Here are our top three.
LDV's premium quality gluten-free and vegan wines come straight from their vineyard in southeastern Arizona. You can sample wines by the glass or bottle—and indulge in some very tasty bites—while relaxing with your friends in their chic indoor dining room or shady patio. Their three wine flights are a great option at $15 each. Plus, check their website for a calendar of events and live music that might be playing on their patio!
Old Town Scottsdale is an oasis for foodies, and home to the talented folks at Merkin Vineyards. Their Wilcox and Verde Valley wines make their way to the tasting room in Old Town, where you can try them out with some delicious snacks, including artisanal charcuterie and house-made gelato and sorbetto. The staff is friendly with extensive knowledge of wine and can answer all of your questions about the selection, or offer pairings to complement your meal.
Housed in the middle of Scottsdale's Downtown Arts District, the Carlson Creek Vineyards tasting room features numerous art installations and bespoke art deco tin ceilings—a nod to the building’s former identity as an art gallery. This is an elegant but cozy space that can accommodate small get-togethers, or you can book the education room for private wine tastings and exclusive events. The tasting room of this famous Arizona winery offers more than 13 rotating varietals. Be sure to order a mix to get the whole experience!
