When you think of winter destinations, Los Angeles may not be the first place that comes to mind. After all, the daytime temperatures in the winter are in the upper 70s, it rarely snows and there are palm trees lining the streets. But LA dresses up for the holidays, and there are plenty of winter- and holiday-themed activities around.
Enjoy the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade
It just doesn’t feel like the holidays if you didn’t watch a Christmas parade, does it? They kick off the season and put everyone in the holiday mood. The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is unique, though. Instead of floats on the street, this parade features boats that are lit up and fireworks over the water. Sounds beautiful, right? The tradition is over a hundred years old and is viewed annually by over a million people.
Watch a Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall
There’s just something about getting dressed up to go to a show during the holidays. At Walt Disney Concert Hall, you’ll get the chance to experience numerous Christmas concerts. There are both local and international guests at this venue. Some locals include A Philharmonic Orchestra and the LA Master Chorale. This holiday season, you can watch Home Alone: The Musical or the classic holiday show, The Nutcracker, at Disney Concert Hall. Both are guaranteed to be a hit!
Experience the Enchanted Forest of Light Show at Descanso Gardens
Holiday lights can turn just about any place into a winter wonderland. But, if you want to experience the best of the best in Los Angeles, we’d recommend visiting Descanso Gardens. It is one of Southern California’s most beautiful gardens. Not a lot of people have heard about it, and that’s because it’s a bit out of the way from downtown LA. It’s worth the drive, though. The light show features several interactive displays and runs from mid-November through early January.
